LETTER FROM PATTY HOYLE-HEADGIRL 1987 - edited
version
I can’t believe it has been 20 years since we were all together in
matric. I still feel about 18 and therefore have become a strong proponent
of the belief that age is all in the mind! And that true friendship
transcends time and space!
We came to the
U.S. for 3 years and are still here almost 8 years later. Who knew? And so
much has happened in those years. We have our two beautiful boys, our house,
our great jobs and family visits just enough to keep us sane!
I am also really enjoying being back in the classroom teaching
English part-time at Dallas International School, where I have been since we
got to Dallas in 2000. What a great place to teach. We have a really
international community and because it is basically a French school, I get
to speak a whole lot of French. This is Etienne’s second year at the school
and he is already speaking French as well. It blows me away what kids are
capable of! (Sorry, Ms Stops, I ended that sentence with a preposition!)
We have been able to travel quite extensively and have been to many
wonderful places here in the States, as well as France, Mexico, Canada,
Hawaii, Central America (Honduras), the Caribbean (we are avid scuba divers
now!), back to South Africa…next on our list is another trip to Mexico with
my parents and somewhere down the line we have to get to Alaska! There is so
much to do and so much to see in one lifetime!
But really, being far away makes one appreciate things in a new
light. I really will be thinking of all of you on Saturday and can’t wait to
catch up on all the news afterwards. Fran, be expecting a phone call! We had
an awesome education at a great school, with amazing teachers who have all
left an indelible impression on us whether we admit it or not. I thank them
all.
Lots of love to all of you,
Your faraway head girl,
Patty
LETTER FROM JENNY DOUGLAS - PREFECT 1987
Patty told
me that our 20th reunion was just around the corner … GOOD GRIEF, 20 years
already!! It seems that it was only yesterday that she was telling me about
the 10 yr reunion.
Who am I
today? Well, I have been living in the USA since June of 1991.. I have been
in banking from that time until recently, managing my own branch for a time
and then moving to a district position (my favourite) as I was training and
auditing. I am now
moving
into the ‘Mommy’ phase of my life, and will be having my first little one
sometime around November 13th :o) I will be staying home for as long as my
husband and I can support our family on one salary.
… and,
yes, I am still singing and playing violin, mostly with the worship teams at
church.
I wish
that I could be there to meet with you all, to catch up and laugh about
times gone by.
