Girls are trained to
participate in Word Schools Style Debating.
This style is not only used
during Rotary Debating Competitions, but prepares them for debating in the
same style at Universities and Technicons.
During these competitions a
school enters a junior and senior team. Grade 8 and 9's may enter the Junior
Section and the Grade 11 and 12 the Senior Section. Grade 10 learners may
enter either the Junior or the Senior Section. Each team consists of 3
speakers. Debaters are trained to be a first, second or third speaker.

Musa Gwebani participated in the
International Debating and Public Speaking Trials held at Parklands High
School these holidays. There were 120 competitors from all over South
Africa who participated and Musa came fifth in the country in the Persuasive
Speaking section. She acquitted herself very well in the Debating section
and gave an excellent presentation with the prepared reading. We are very
proud of her achievement and wish her every success next year with Public
Speaking and Debating. Congratulations, Musa!

Congratulations to the Senior Debating Team, who won their debate
against De Kuilen High School in Kuils River. Musa Gwebani won Best Speaker

experience. We would like to wish both teams the best of luck in their
future debating endeavours.

August 2005: NPI Debate
Lauren
Joseph, Anele Ganta and Natasha Chandler participated in the National
Productivity Institute Debate Tournament on Wednesday 10 August 2005.
The motions before the house were:
“Prisoners should be
allowed to vote and Companies should give employees free Aids drugs.”
Sans Souci opposed the first motion and proposed the latter. Our girls
offered excellent arguments in both debates and were announced the winners
on both occasions.
We
were the only team (out of six schools) that won both debates. We were
announced as the Winners of this tournament and will be debating against the
North West Province on 18 August 2005 in Kimberley. Our girls will also
represent the Western Cape at the National NPI Competition in October.
Congratulations to Lauren, Anele and Natasha. You have indeed done your
school proud.

the motion that traditional healers should be allowed to write medical
certificates for employees.

Sans Souci debated against Camps Bay High.
The Juniors proposed the topic “SA prisoners should be employed in public
works”. Unfortunately they lost their debate. We are very proud to say
that Mishka Kearns was announced as Best Speaker. The Seniors were excited
when they won the toss and decided to oppose the topic “Rich countries
should only provide aid to countries that are democracies”. They were
delighted to hear that they had won the debate.
