HOW
CAN WE HELP?
Our Interact Society is a
very active service organisation within the school. Its main aim and
function is to make the learners aware of the need to be of service within
the community.
A wide spectrum of activities provides the learners with the opportunity to
be of service in whichever field they choose. Projects range from assisting
our parent club, the Rotary Club of Claremont, with the Argus Cycle Tour;
assisting various charitable organisations with their street collections;
collecting food and clothing for disaster-stricken areas; giving support to
AIDS babies; providing support at the One-to-One day for the mentally
challenged; visiting parents at the Maitland Cottage Home on a weekly basis
- in a nutshell to be of service wherever and whenever the need arises.
We believe
that by helping others, we grow within ourselves and live up to the motto of
our school - Disce Prodesse - to be of service!
Welcome to all Interacters
- 2007!
We have a great year
planned ahead with many exciting events. Our first event is the Bishops
Fun Frenzy on 18 February. The “Ons Plek” Toiletry Drive will
take place during the course of the year and we are still selling red bands
to raise money for the Red Cross Children’s Hospital Theatre Fund.
To find out more, join
us at second break on Tuesday, and after school on Wednesday - Julia Lee
Update: 24 June 2007
The Interact Society
would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Fikelele Rice Drive. We
managed to obtain over 300 bags of rice which we delivered on 7 June to the
Fikelele Children’s Home in Khayelitsha. Interact is grateful to all those
who helped make this project a success.
Update: 15 May 2007
Interact has had a
change of plans regarding the Children 4 Children Campaign. We will now be
collecting RICE instead of Formula until the end of May. Any monetary
donations or contributions of rice are welcome. Interact would also like to
thank all those who have already contributed. Keep up the good work!
Update: 08 May 2007
Due to Sans Souci’s
positive response to previous drives, we have once again been approached by
NAPTOSA to become involved with the 2007 CHILDREN 4 CHILDREN Campaign. For
the month of May the Interact Society will be collecting baby milk formula (Lactogen)
for the Fikelela Children’s Organisation in Khayelitsha. It would be
greatly appreciated if all girls and parents could contribute by donating
formula or monetary contributions. Although this may seem like a small
effort on our part, it is sure to make a great impact on others’ lives.
Update: 25 April 2007
Last week was a very
exciting week for Interact. On Wednesday afternoon we handed over the 8
boxes of toiletries which we had collected to “Ons Plek” in Woodstock. The
girls greatly appreciated our donation and wish to thank everyone who
contributed.
We arranged a Trash
and Treasure collection for the Sive Nathi Licenced Home for underprivileged
children. We unfortunately only had 3 days, but managed to collect 5 boxes
of toys, clothing, stationery, etc., on Thursday afternoon. Thank you to
everyone who donated.
On Friday night 10 of
our girls met with Bishops Interact. We really had a good time – good food
and good laughs - and we started planning future ventures with the Bishops
Interact group.
Update: 13
February 2007
Over the last year, we have been raising money by selling Red Cross
Bands for the operating theatres of Red Cross Children's Hospital. They have
been using outdated equipment for the past decade. Yet, with the outdated
equipment, the doctors have saved many lives.
They have been raising money in various ways, as well as receiving donations
to try and raise enough money to revamp these theatres. Last week Interact
handed over our donation of R4850.00! Red Cross is very grateful for our
donation and although it is a drop in the ocean, it has brought them closer
to their R50 million goal. Sans Souci girls will always be remembered as the
school that helped to make a difference. Thank you to all big-hearted Sans
Soucians who contributed.
Update: 06
February 2007
After much suspense and postponement, Interact finally delivered the
goods we bought for Ikhaya, Red Cross Mother’s Hostel, on Monday, 29 January
2007. They were thrilled to receive items like a microwave, bedding,
curtains, towels, etc. These things may seem trivial to us, but it meant
the world to the hard-working and dedicated staff at Red Cross. Thank you
to everyone who contributed last year. Your help is much appreciated.
