Life
Orientation is the study of the self in relation to others and society,
and uses a holistic approach. It is concerned with the personal, social,
intellectual, emotional and physical growth and development of learners.
This subject guides and
prepares learners for life, its responsibilities and possibilities. It
equips learners with knowledge, values, attitudes and skills that enable
them to make informed decisions and choices, and take appropriate actions to
live meaningfully and successfully in a rapidly changing society.
The purpose of Life
Orientation is to enable young people who are moving towards independence
and adulthood to face challenges, assume responsibilities, and exploit
life's opportunities. It enables learners to exercise their
constitutional rights and responsibilities, respect the rights of others and
value diversity, health and well-being. It helps to prepare learners to
respond effectively to the challenges of the adult world and to play a
meaningful role in society and the economy. |
