Mrs Watson retired and Dr Elizabeth Fugard took her place as Headmistress at the helm of Sans Souci for 18 months.
We had 11 Sans Souci Western Province representatives in various sporting fields.
Melissa Brink, a Grade 11 (Standard 9) pupil, was inducted as the Junior Mayor of Cape Town. In September she shared the platform with Nelson Mandela at a rally at Athlone stadium.
Sans Souci opened its doors as a Model B school with girls of all races and demographic backgrounds being accepted.
Our school song was sung for the first time. It was written by a Sans Souci pupil, Fiona Zerbst.
A new house was added to the three existing school houses, namely Ross (Hamilton Ross), Grey (Lord George Grey) and Wade (Justice Wade). This new house was named Kenyon house, after Sans Souci’s first Headmistress Miss Kenyon.
A swimming pool became the next addition to Sans Souci, creating yet another opportunity for our girls to excel outside of the classroom.
A new summer uniform was designed…first to go were the perky little panama hats and pleated skirts.
Miss Kenyon retires and a new Headmistress, Miss Fiona Stewart takes her place. In 1980 Miss Stewart becomes Mrs Watson.
